In one of the most touching and genuine moments of this year’s Sing for Greece final, winner Akylas, visibly emotional, reached out for his mother and brought her onto the stage, sharing an unscripted moment of pure affection.
The crowd erupted in applause as Akylas was declared the winner, but it was his gesture toward his mother that stole the show. Without hesitation, he invited her to join him, and in a deeply tender moment, she embraced him tightly, caressing his face joyously. Visibly emotion, Akylas smiled and said into the microphone “Isn’t she beautiful?” The audience responded with even more applause and cheers.
In his post-performance interview, Akylas could hardly contain his joy and gratitude. “I’m so happy, so thankful,” he said, adding that having his mother by his side was as significant to him as the victory itself. “She came up on stage—it’s magical,” he continued, referencing the support that had made the night even more special. Akylas will represent Greece with his song Ferto at the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, bringing a deeply personal story with him to the competition.
His mother, still moved by the moment, expressed her thanks to the audience. “Thank you so much, everyone, from the bottom of my heart. Good luck, my son.” she said, her words simple yet filled with immense pride.
Akylas’s emotional victory in Sing for Greece is not just a musical triumph but a moment filled with personal significance, setting the stage for his participation in the 70th Eurovision Song Contest. The contest will be held in Vienna from May 12–16, 2025, with Greece performing in the first half of the first semi-final on May 12. Cyprus will compete in the second half of the second semi-final on May 14, and the grand final will take place on May 16 at the Wiener Stadthalle, Austria’s largest indoor arena.
