Stars Pay Tribute to Fashion Icon Giorgio Armani

The death of Giorgio Armani at age 91 in Milan has sparked worldwide tributes, with celebrities, politicians, and fellow designers honoring the man who reshaped modern fashion. Social media has been flooded with farewell messages for the Italian designer, whose influence extended far beyond the runway.

Armani’s body will lie in state at the Armani/Teatro space in Milan on September 6–7, before a private family funeral.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described him as “a symbol of Italy” who brought prestige to the nation’s fashion industry. Fellow designer Valentino Garavani mourned him as “a friend, never a rival,” while Condé Nast’s Anna Wintour praised his “powerful personality and vision” that defined women’s fashion from the 1970s onward.

Actors also shared their memories. Richard Gere called him “a visionary with the soul of an artist,” while Julia Roberts remembered him as “a true friend, a legend.” Morgan Freeman paid tribute to Armani’s “genius that touched many lives,” and Leonardo DiCaprio noted that his legacy “will continue to shape and inspire the world for many years.”

The fashion world was equally moved. Donatella Versace said, “The world lost a giant,” while LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault hailed him for expanding Italian elegance to a global scale. Supermodel Cindy Crawford remembered him as “a true master of his art,” and Victoria Beckham called him “a real legend of fashion.”

Other stars including Reese Witherspoon, Cate Blanchett, Ashton Kutcher, Laura Pausini, and Charles Leclerc also posted emotional farewells, underlining the depth of Armani’s impact across industries.

Known as the “king of elegance,” Armani transformed tailoring, pioneered modern minimalism, and built a fashion empire that became synonymous with timeless style. As tributes continue, his legacy as one of the great architects of contemporary fashion remains unchallenged.
