Construction has officially entered the implementation phase for the long-delayed casino and entertainment complex in the northern Athens suburb of Marousi, with cranes already operating on site and material deliveries continuing at an intensive pace.
Recent footage from the area captures the transformation of the site ahead of what is expected to become a new landmark in Athens’ northern suburbs. The video shows the final stages before the landscape changes permanently, showing the quiet of a Sunday worksite, the shadows of cranes and the transition from the “before” to the “after.”
The site lies adjacent to the Athens Olympic complex (OAKA).
Archive footage from the same location before the current phase of works began is also included, highlighting the scale of the changes already underway.
The project concerns the relocation of the greater Athens-Piraeus area’s sole operating casino from atop Mount Parnitha to Marousi, a plan that in the past sparked political, legal and urban planning debate for years.
Supporters of the project have argued it will create jobs and boost investment in the wider area surrounding OAKA and two well-known shopping malls, while opponents, including some local residents and adjacent municipal authorities, have raised concerns over traffic congestion, environmental impact and changes to the character of the district.
