At Bloomberg Forum, PM Mitsotakis Showcases Greece’s Comeback to Global Investors

Mitsotakis highlighted the enduring strength of the U.S.–Greece relationship. “We have shown we can work together effectively, particularly in the energy sector,” he said.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a clear message to the international investment community during his appearance at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore, emphasizing that Greece has emerged from its years of crisis—though work remains to be done.

“Some solutions lie at the European level, but difficult reforms are the responsibility of each individual state,” he noted. “We have a stable government, a parliamentary majority, elections set for 2027, and the governing party is leading by a solid margin. I’m optimistic about the performance of the Greek economy.”

Acknowledging continued pressure from the cost of living, Mitsotakis stressed that his administration has delivered on its commitments, with a new budget set to include relief measures aimed at tackling inflation.

The prime minister underscored Greece’s “remarkable comeback,” pointing to primary surpluses, an improved debt outlook, and growth rates consistently above the European average. “We have demonstrated that Greece can produce reliable governments and that the crisis is behind us,” he stated.

Turning to developments in Ukraine, Mitsotakis emphasized that Europe must “draw lessons in order to make decisions,” while clarifying that no official version of President Trump’s reported peace plan has been shared with European leaders. “We have made it clear that no agreement can exist without Ukraine. Europe must support Ukraine financially, and each country must advance reforms so we can move in step,” he added.

Responding to a question about Donald Trump’s perceived affinity for strongman leaders such as Turkey’s President Erdogan, Mitsotakis highlighted the enduring strength of the U.S.–Greece relationship. “We have shown we can work together effectively, particularly in the energy sector,” he said.

On relations with Turkey, he reiterated Greece’s commitment to seeking a constructive dialogue on maritime issues while strengthening national defense: “Our deterrent posture is clear toward any country that could threaten our security.”

Greece as a Bridge to Asia

Mitsotakis also described his meeting with Singapore’s prime minister as particularly productive, noting shared principles rooted in open markets and the rule of law. “There is significant room for cooperation between Asian and European nations. Singapore has an important role to play, and we would welcome closer ties with ASEAN members, as Greece can serve as a bridge between Europe and the Far East,” he noted.
