Greece-Qatar Talks Focus on Regional Security and Energy Cooperation

The Doha visit forms part of Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias’ wider tour of the Persian Gulf, following a stop in the United Arab Emirates.

Regional security, stability and energy cooperation dominated talks between Nikos Dendias and Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha on Wednesday, as Greece continues to expand its engagement in the Persian Gulf.

During his visit, Dendias was received by the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Their discussions focused on regional developments and their implications for international security and stability, as well as ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and conflict resolution.

The two sides also reviewed bilateral relations between Greece and Qatar, exploring ways to further strengthen cooperation, particularly in defense and security.

Later, Dendias held formal talks with Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs. The meeting centered on current regional developments and their broader impact, as well as prospects for deepening defense collaboration.

In a post on X, Dendias said he invited his Qatari counterpart to visit Greece, an invitation that was accepted, signaling continued momentum in bilateral ties.

The Doha visit forms part of Dendias’ wider tour of the Persian Gulf, following stops in the United Arab Emirates, including Abu Dhabi.

Analysts highlight the strategic importance of the visit, noting Qatar’s central role in ongoing developments across the Middle East.
