Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met his Singaporean counterpart, Lawrence Wong, on Thursday, Nov. 20, in a visit aimed at expanding cooperation between the two nations. Later, he was received by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at the Istana, Singapore’s presidential complex.
In talks with Wong, Mitsotakis highlighted the strong potential for deeper bilateral collaboration across tourism, shipping, defense, and Greek exports—including agri-food products. The two leaders also examined investment prospects in Greece, an area where Singaporean interest has been steadily growing.

Digital governance was another focal point, with both countries exploring opportunities for knowledge exchange on digital transformation and the use of artificial intelligence in public administration.
Mitsotakis emphasized Greece’s continued reform efforts and its emerging role as both an energy hub for Southeast Europe and a source of energy security for Central and Eastern Europe. He pointed to the recent agreement to supply Ukraine with U.S. LNG, announced during President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Athens, as an example of Greece’s expanding strategic footprint.

The prime ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to international law, including the Law of the Sea, as well as to multilateralism and free trade—principles central to both countries’ foreign policy outlooks.
Mitsotakis also voiced strong support for enhancing EU–Singapore relations, noting Singapore’s crucial role within ASEAN and the region’s dynamic economic growth.
Opening the meeting, the Greek leader underlined the significance of the visit: “It is a real pleasure to be here; it has been a long time since a Greek Prime Minister last visited Singapore. We are both maritime nations with a deep interest in preserving a rules-based international order… We have begun attracting investment from Singapore, and we would certainly like to see these flows continue and grow.”
Wong, for his part, praised Greece’s economic trajectory: “Your economy is performing well under your leadership… We see many new opportunities in Greece and in Europe, especially through the EU–Singapore free trade agreement. We want to strengthen our economic ties.”

During his stay, Mitsotakis also met with the Metropolitan of Singapore and South Asia, Konstantinos, and members of the local Greek community.
