Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis delivered his annual speech at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF).
Mitsotakis emphasized that the government has the fiscal space to provide relief—“not because we raised taxes.”
“I will not make promises and spend money that does not exist. I will never do that. I am here to speak about inclusive growth, about the recovery of the national economy that will lead to citizens’ prosperity. These are the same things I said back in 2016, during my first appearance as president of New Democracy.”
Mitsotakis announced “the boldest income tax reform since the restoration of democracy,” including reductions in tax rates.
“Everything I announce is costed and aligned with European rules—our reforms create room for measures that support household income against high prices. The best way to return the dividend of growth to citizens is not through handouts, but through tax cuts,” he stressed.
He also announced a significant upgrade of diplomats’ salaries, as well as permanent measures worth €1.5 billion.
“Our goal is to accelerate so that by 2027, a new four-year term dawns for our party,” he added.
