The Iranian embassy in Athens on Friday issued a statement, posted on X and in the Greek language, stressing that Tehran’s official position is not reflected by “personal posts”, a direct response to a report in local media citing official displeasure against Greece and Azerbaijan for ostensibly supporting Israel.

The reference to Greece and Azerbaijan was carried by the Fars news agency, which is widely believed to be associated with the hardline Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which itself cited a post from a private account.
In the Greek-language message posted on the US-based social media, the Iranian embassy stated that it “rejects the report (by the Greek media outlet Kathimerini) in question, which seeks to distort Iran’s official positions and create misleading interpretations.”
“References to isolated and personal posts, which lack reliable and verifiable documentation and attempt, through vague citations, to present a distorted picture of reality, do not reflect Tehran’s official positions. We call on the media to demonstrate responsibility and accuracy, avoiding the reproduction of unverified claims that do not contribute to stability and mutual understanding,” was the full statement.
The post published by Fars had been interpreted by some analysts as an indirect but clear message that the theocratic Iranian regime views Greece and Azerbaijan as countries supporting Israel and, therefore, not neutral in the conflict. Although the post originated from a private account, it was selected and promoted on the website operated by the semi-official news agency.
