Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a phone call with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides days before his scheduled February 11 visit to Ankara for talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
According to official information, Mitsotakis briefed Christodoulides on his upcoming trip to the Turkish capital and his expected meeting with Erdogan, as diplomatic contacts continue in the region.
The two leaders also discussed the latest developments on the Cyprus issue. The conversation took place within the framework of ongoing efforts aimed at restarting negotiations.
Both sides underscored their “steady commitment” to international law, the principles and values of the European Union, and relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.
Shared approach on restarting talks
Cypriot media reported that during the call, Athens and Nicosia confirmed their common approach to continuing efforts to resume the negotiation process from where it had previously stopped. The stated goal remains a “viable and functional solution,” fully aligned with international law and the EU’s legal framework, known as the acquis communautaire.
The leaders also reaffirmed the ongoing coordination between Athens and Nicosia, emphasizing the importance of close cooperation amid current diplomatic developments.
