Mitsotakis Points to ‘2030 Horizon’ for his Gov’t

To continue until 2030 Mitsotakis and his center-right ND would have to win another general election with a big enough result to form a government or a large enough portion of the vote to try and form a coalition government

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis pointed to a horizon of 2030 for his government’s mandate, “away from adventures that would jeopardize the achievements of the Greek people,” as he underlined, during an address to his ruling New Democracy (ND) party’s youth organization (ONNED) on Friday evening.

To continue until 2030 Mitsotakis and his center-right ND would have to win another general election with a big enough result to form a government or a large enough portion of the vote to try and form a coalition government.

“Just like tomorrow, 51 years ago, a party was born that would leave its mark on the life of the country, but also on the lives of all of us: because on Oct. 4, 1974, New Democracy was founded.”

At the same time, he again pointed to 2027 as the date for the next general election, in a bid to dismiss speculation over a snap poll.

Addressing a more youthful audience, Mitsotakis said “…the younger generation is seeking employment and decent wages. In 2019, I made a commitment to reduce unemployment, which currently stands at 8% and is continuing to fall. The basic salary for new entrants to the labour market has risen from 650 euros to 880 euros and will reach 950 euros in 2027,” he stressed, adding that a digital work card records overtime and protects employees, especially new ones, from any arbitrary actions by the employers.

Mitsotakis also referred to the urban housing shortage and his government’s initiatives, while maintaining that only ND can guarantee political stability in the country.
