Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a private meeting with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The Prime Minister congratulated the Ecumenical Patriarch on receiving the John Templeton Foundation award, a prestigious annual award given to a living person for their exceptional contributions to affirming life’s spiritual dimension through science, philosophy, or practical work.
During the meeting, they discussed issues concerning the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, and Mitsotakis was briefed on Bartholomew’s ongoing apostolic visit to the United States.
As part of his visit to the United States, the His All-Holiness held a series of meetings, including one with U.S. President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson, last week.
During his meeting with the U.S. President, which lasted a little under an hour at the Oval Office, the Ecumenical Patriarch urged Trump to focus more on the Christians in the Middle East.
Bartholomew was also warmly welcomed by the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at UN headquarters in New York.
Their discussion focused on issues of common concern, particularly initiatives aimed at fostering dialogue among peoples, religions, and cultures.
Bartholomew was honored by the U.S. Congress for his religious leadership, human rights, and environmental initiatives.
