PM Mitsotakis at MED-9: Future Threats to Europe May Also Come From the South

The Greek prime minister also met with King Abdullah II of Jordan on the sidelines of the summit

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to a need to move faster towards building a common European energy market, especially in southeast Europe, speaking to reporters on Monday at the conclusion of a MED-9 summit in Slovenia.
Mitsotakis said countries in the region, including Greece, still face higher prices, compared to other member states.
On the now increasingly timely issue of European defense, he said the EU’s main priority remains the war in Ukraine.

“I think we all advocate a 360-degree perspective on European defense, and when we think about new projects of common interest that we believe we can promote as the European Union, such as the anti-missile shield, for example, we must recognize that future threats may not only emanate from the east but also from the south,” he stressed.

Meeting with King Abdullah of Jordan

On the sidelines of the summit in the Adriatic resort city of Portoroz, Mitsotakis met with King Abdullah II of Jordan to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East.
He reportedly expressed his appreciation of Jordan’s role in maintaining stability in the wider region and also underlined the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza as well as making progress on the points of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan.
