The issue of the attack on a Greek-owned oil tanker off the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk on Saturday morning was raised by Greek Foreign George Gerapetritis at an EU foreign affairs council in Brussels on Monday, according to diplomatic sources.
According to reports, Gerapetritis said Greek-owned tankers had previously been attacked in the Black Sea last January, while another tanker had been attacked southwest of Crete in December 2025.
The Greek minister condemned these actions and called on the European Union to take coordinated action to safeguard freedom of navigation, which is conducted in a fully lawful manner, the same sources said.
Finally, he also briefed his Ukrainian counterpart over the issue.
