Tight Security at Tempi Trial in Larissa Court

Strict entry controls and limited access are in place as the high-profile railway disaster trial continues, with families demanding a fair and orderly process

Authorities have imposed strict security measures at the courthouse in Larissa as the high-profile trial over the Tempi railway disaster enters its second day, aiming to ensure order and a fair judicial process.

The president of the three-member felony appeals court issued detailed guidelines outlining how the proceedings will be conducted, with controlled access for all participants, including defendants, lawyers, victims’ families, and journalists.

Controlled access and strict procedures

Under the new measures, entry to the courthouse is tightly regulated. Lawyers must enter through a designated entrance starting at 8:00 a.m., present identification, and are limited to three per party.

Defendants are admitted through a separate entrance, also subject to identity checks.

Family members supporting the prosecution are allowed into the courtroom in stages. The first 100 individuals are registered and seated inside, while additional attendees are directed to a separate area where proceedings are broadcast on screens.

Authorities emphasized that seating, movement, and overall presence inside the courtroom will follow strict order and assigned positions.

The court directive stresses the need to maintain security, discipline, and respect for all parties involved, given the emotional weight and public interest surrounding the case.

Families demand transparency

Relatives of the victims continue to call for a transparent and uninterrupted trial. One mother of a victim said families are determined to seek justice and want to be present inside the courtroom to witness the proceedings firsthand.

“We will not remain silent until our children are vindicated,” she said, urging authorities to ensure both order and fairness throughout the trial.
