Vindication for Beny Steinmetz; Greek Supreme Court upholds his appeal

The Romanian authorities' arrest warrant for Beny Steinmetz had already been deemed invalid by Interpol, Italy, Cyprus, and even Greece itself

The Greek Supreme Court (Areios Pagos) has today accepted the appeal filed by Beny Steinmetz. The Israeli businessman’s ordeal began in October of last year when he was taken into custody due to an arrest warrant  issued by Romania. The Supreme Court ruled against the execution of the warrant, ordered the lifting of his detention, and mandated his immediate release.

To date, six European countries have rejected Romania’s legal claims in this case as unfounded. The Romanian authorities’ arrest warrant for Beny Steinmetz had already been deemed invalid by Interpol, Italy, Cyprus, and even Greece itself. Similarly, France, Belgium, and Malta refused to execute warrants related to other co-defendants in the same case.
