EuroBasket 2025 – Over 2,000 Greek Fans ‘Against’ Turkey in Semi

According to reports, the Greek basketball federation formally requested 1,500 tickets from FIBA for the EuroBasket 2025 game, which are expected to “vanish’ fast.

The Greek men’s national basketball team will play Turkey on Friday night in the EuroBasket 2025 semi-final for a spot in the tournament’s final and will have the support of over 2,000 fans in the stands of the Arena Riga in Latvia.

According to reports, the Greek basketball federation formally requested 1,500 tickets from FIBA for the match, which are expected to “vanish’ fast.

Greece’s national team enjoyed the support of hundreds of fans in the match against Lithuania a few days ago. Still, for the upcoming semifinal against Turkey, a much larger contingent is expected to descend on Riga and the “Xiaomi Arena.”

Several charter flights have been booked by Greek fans traveling to Latvia with Aegean Airlines and other companies to serve the increased demand, while reports suggest more flights could be chartered.

The traditionally loud Greek fans will face tough competition in the stands, as a large Turkish contingent (likely larger than the Greek contingent in number) will also be present.

Led by NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, Vassilis Spanoulis’ team secured a major victory over Lithuania to reach the semifinals of the EuroBasket 2025 for the first time in 16 years, while Ergin Ataman’s side is chasing just the second medal in its history after 2001.

Greece is a two-time EuroBasket champion, having won the tournament in 1987 and 2005.
