First Seaplane of the Season Takes Off from Volos Port

The successful launch in Volos is seen as a key step forward, with hopes that seaplane activity will soon expand to other major ports and island destinations across the country

After years of preparation and collaboration between the Port Authority of Volos and Hellenic Seaplanes, the first official seaplane flights of the season successfully took off today from the coastal city of Volos in central Greece—signaling a long-anticipated return of seaplane transport in the country.

A Cessna Caravan 208 aircraft landed in the port earlier in the day before taking off for two sightseeing tours around the region, offering passengers a scenic bird’s-eye view of the Pagasetic Gulf and surrounding landscapes. The aircraft is also scheduled to depart for Athens later in the afternoon, with the flight set for 5 p.m. local time.

A Milestone for Volos and Greece’s Seaplane Revival

This event marks a milestone moment in efforts to re-establish seaplane travel in Greece, a project that has been in development for several years. The goal is to connect coastal cities and island destinations more efficiently while also boosting tourism offerings through aerial tours and quicker point-to-point travel.

To ensure safe operations, a speedboat was deployed in the area to assist with any necessary safety measures during the takeoffs and landings.
