Greece might be famed for its crystal-clear waters, featuring constantly among the top countries with blue flag beaches, but it is not all perfect. According to the first microbiological water quality findings for 2025, released by the Panhellenic Center for Ecological Research (PAKOE), there are several beaches in Attica and other parts of Greece that are unsuitable for swimming, failing the acceptable swimming standards.
The initial round of water sampling took place in May, covering 202 locations throughout Attica, including both organized and free-access beaches. According to PAKOE, 153 beaches (76%) were deemed suitable for swimming, while 49 beaches (24%) were found unsuitable due to high levels of microbial contamination.
These are the beaches deemed unsuitable for swimming in 2025.
