Area 51 Over the Aegean? US Releases New UFO Files (Vid)

Previously undisclosed military footage and reports describe "unidentified aerial phenomena" observed near and over Greece by American personnel

Previously classified files released on Friday by the US Department of War include multiple references to unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs) observed over or near Greece, including incidents recorded in the Aegean by US military personnel in 2024.

The publication is part of a broader declassification initiative announced by American authorities aimed at increasing public transparency surrounding UAPs — better and popularly known as UFOs. According to the department, the release was coordinated with the White House, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, NASA, the FBI and the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO).

Officials said the newly published archive contains previously undisclosed material spanning nearly 80 years and would continue to be updated on a rolling basis through the government portal war.gov/ufo

Among the files drawing particular attention in Greek media are infrared sensor recordings and military mission reports linked to sightings over the Aegean involving US aircraft operating from Greece in January 2024.

One military report describes an unidentified object moving at an estimated speed of around 800 kilometers per hour. The object was described by an observer as “diamond-shaped” with what appeared to be a vertically suspended mass beneath it. According to the report, the phenomenon was visible only through a short-wave infrared (SWIR) sensor system and could not be detected with the naked eye or through standard visual-spectrum imaging.

Accompanying footage released by US authorities shows a high-contrast object moving above the sea before becoming difficult to distinguish as the background transitions from water to land. At one point, operators switched the sensor from infrared to visible-spectrum mode, causing the object to disappear from view.

A separate US military mission report from operations linked to Greece documented a sighting lasting approximately two minutes. The observer estimated the object’s speed at roughly 434 knots and stated that it appeared not to perform conventional flight maneuvers.

The latest document release follows years of growing official scrutiny in the United States over unexplained military sightings. Since 2021, the Pentagon and intelligence agencies have acknowledged hundreds of reports involving unidentified aerial phenomena, though officials have repeatedly cautioned that most cases ultimately have conventional explanations, including drones, atmospheric effects or sensor anomalies.

At the same time, several incidents involving military pilots and advanced sensor systems remain officially unresolved, fueling continued public and political interest in the subject both in the United States and internationally.
