Russian missiles struck an under-construction factory of Turkish defense company Baykar in Kyiv, where production of the Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 and Akinci drones was set to begin, Turkish media reported on Thursday.
According to the pro-government Turkish media, the site was hit by two missiles, causing extensive damage.
The plant, built through Baykar’s Ukrainian subsidiary LLC Avia Ventures, was near completion but had not yet started production.
The company’s press officer confirmed the attack to a Turkish media outlet, stating that the situation in its Ukrainian factory was being closely monitored.
On August 20, Ukrainian forces using Bayraktar TB2 drones struck a Russian vessel off Kherson with laser-guided munitions, killing five crew members.
Baykar established LLC Avia Ventures in 2019 to expand its production activities in Ukraine. The investment for the plant was valued at $95.5 million.
The attack resulted in explosions, leading to a large fire at the site. Efforts to extinguish the blaze involving specialized helicopters, Ukrainian media reported Thursday.
According to military channels and local outlets, this marks the fourth Russian attack on the facility in the past six months.
