Many observers from the West took note of the Chinese weapon systems showcased during the China Victory Day Parade by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) at Tiananmen Square in Beijing on the 80th anniversary of the victory against Japan in WWII.
China unveiled several of its unmanned weapons systems at the China Victory Day Parade, underscoring the shifting nature of modern warfare. Among the most striking were the so-called “wolf robots.”
According to state broadcaster CCTV, the machines are an upgrade from earlier robotic dogs and are designed to replace human soldiers in life-threatening situations, reducing battlefield casualties.
The wolf robots made their global debut at Airshow China 2024. Developed by the China South Industries Group Corporation, they weigh about 70 kilograms and are intended for multiple roles, including armed assault, reconnaissance, transport, and support.
Engineers say the machines are built for high mobility and adaptability across complex terrain. They can operate alongside human troops, climb stairs, and surmount large obstacles.
The wolf robots can also integrate with soldiers in networked formations, enhancing combat operations in urban environments, plateaus, and mountainous regions.
Other Chinese weapon systems included the giant underwater drones known as AJX002. The massive drones, resembling submarines, are capable of operating at depths of up to 20 meters.
The country also unveiled a stealth combat drone equipped with artificial intelligence, designed to fly in coordination with a manned fighter jet.
Beijing displayed its intercontinental strategic nuclear missiles, engineered for launch from northern silos. The weapons are capable of targeting the U.S. mainland.
