U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to file a lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal, its parent company News Corp, and media mogul Rupert Murdoch over a recent article that claims Trump sent a letter in 2003 to financier Jeffrey Epstein. Trump has strongly denied the report, calling it false, malicious, and defamatory.
The announcement came late Thursday via Trump’s Truth Social platform, where he referred to himself in the third person. “President Donald Trump will soon sue the Wall Street Journal, News Corp, and Rupert Murdoch personally,” he wrote, accusing the publication of spreading a fabricated story.
According to the report, the Wall Street Journal alleged that Trump had sent Epstein a letter laced with innuendo, a claim the former president categorically rejects. Trump insists that both the publication and its leadership were warned ahead of time about the inaccuracy of the content.
He stated that Murdoch had assured him the matter would be addressed but “apparently lacked the power to follow through.” Trump also claimed that Wall Street Journal Editor Emma Tucker was directly informed by both himself and his spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, that the letter was fake, yet chose to proceed with the story.
Calling the article “false, malicious, and defamatory,” Trump emphasized his belief that the media must learn “to be honest and not rely on sources that may not even exist.”
The former president did not provide a timeline for when the lawsuit will be officially filed.
