A widespread internet outage on Monday morning caused chaos for millions of users around the globe, temporarily disrupting access to some of the most popular online platforms and applications.
According to Downdetector, the incident affected Amazon’s cloud service AWS, as well as platforms such as Robinhood, Snapchat, and Perplexity. The CEO of Perplexity confirmed that the root cause of the outage was linked to AWS.
Services including Amazon.com, Prime Video, and Alexa also reported technical issues, while millions of users experienced connection and functionality problems on Roblox, Fortnite, Duolingo, and Canva.
On its service status page, Amazon acknowledged “increased error rates” and delays across multiple AWS services, which power a wide range of applications used daily worldwide.
The outage appeared to be global in scale, affecting services across the digital spectrum — from mobile games to cloud platforms relied upon by businesses and even governmental institutions. Users were left frustrated as normal operations gradually resumed throughout the day.
