A 26-year-old Greek tourist, Antonis Antoniadis, was fatally attacked in central London during a robbery that targeted his Lacoste bag and Versace watch. The incident took place in the early hours of July 7, 2024, outside the club 32 Portland Place.
The attack
The five perpetrators, aged 18 to 26, assaulted Antoniadis, kicking and stabbing him in the chest and thigh. He succumbed to his injuries two weeks later in hospital.
Courtroom drama
During the sentencing hearing, tension erupted when a man in the public gallery shouted that the trial was corrupt, prompting the judge, Rebecca Trowler KC, to reprimand the outburst. She told the defendants, “I observe most of you—not all—laughing and showing complete disrespect for this process and the real harm you have caused.”
Family reaction
Antonis’s parents, Stella and Giannis Antoniadis, expressed that the loss of their son was “unjust and inhumane”, leaving them deeply devastated.
The five men were sentenced to life imprisonment, marking a grim closure to the high-profile case that shocked both the Greek and London communities.
