Initial Ukrainian Reax to US Plan Says Kyiv Will Work ‘Constructively’ with Trump Admin

To this end, a phone call between Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump is expected in the coming period

A buzz surrounding the still simmering Russia-Ukraine war emerged on Thursday afternoon (Europe time) after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office said the country would “work on the plan’s points to ensure a dignified end to the war” – with “plan” in this case referring to an initiative tabled by the Trump administration over the past few hours.

Kyiv acknowledged that it had received a US “draft plan” with proposals to end the war with Russia and was ready to engage with Washington over the details. Russia invaded eastern and northeastern Ukraine in February 2022

Zelensky’s office added that the government in Kyiv was ready “to work constructively with the American side” and would “work on the plan’s points to ensure a dignified end to the war”.

Without revealing any of the proposals in the US plan — which allegedly leaned heavily on aggressor Moscow’s demands — the Ukrainian side said Zelensky expected to speak with Donald Trump “in the coming days”.

The US president has repeatedly tried to broker an end to the devastating war, or at least a ceasefire. At the same time, his administration has been reluctant to take a harsher position against Putin-led Russia.
