Iran’s IRGC Fires on Greek-Linked Cargo Ship

A container ship with Greek interests was struck in the Persian Gulf after reportedly being fired upon by a Revolutionary Guard vessel, raising fresh concerns over maritime security in one of the world’s most sensitive shipping routes.

A container ship with Greek shipping interests came under fire in the Persian Gulf after being approached and shot at by a vessel belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to a maritime security report.

The incident highlights rising risks for international shipping in the region, where geopolitical tensions have increasingly affected commercial sea routes.

Ship attacked without warning

According to the maritime security firm Diaplous, the captain of the container ship EPAMINONDAS (IMO 9153862), sailing under the Liberian flag and managed by shipping giant Maersk, reported that an armed IRGC speedboat approached the vessel without issuing prior communication via radio.

The crew said the vessel then opened fire on the ship.

Damage to bridge, no injuries reported

The attack caused significant damage to the ship’s bridge, according to the same report. Despite the impact, all crew members were confirmed safe, and no injuries were reported.

The vessel had departed from Jebel Ali port in the United Arab Emirates and was en route to Mundra in India at the time of the incident.
