The Kremlin on Wednesday accused British specialists of playing a role in a Ukrainian missile strike on the Russian city of Bryansk, carried out using British Storm Shadow missiles. Kremlin officials said Britain’s involvement would be “taken into account.”
The Bryansk regional governor said the attack on Tuesday killed at least six civilians and injured 37, calling it a “terrorist missile attack,” though he did not specify the exact target. Ukrainian authorities said the strike hit a key plant producing missile components, while Moscow accused Kyiv of deliberately targeting civilians.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the launch of the British-supplied missiles “was impossible without British specialists.” He added that Russia’s ongoing “special military operation” in Ukraine aims, in part, to demilitarize the country and prevent further attacks.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described the strike as premeditated and civilian-directed, challenging the U.N. to assess the incident. London has not immediately responded to the Kremlin’s accusations.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy defended the attack, saying it successfully targeted one of Russia’s most important missile electronics factories, crucial to its military capabilities.
