Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, focusing on the latest developments in the Middle East, the Kremlin announced.
According to the statement, the two leaders discussed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed plan aimed at bringing an end to the war in the Gaza Strip, as well as broader efforts to stabilize the region.
Both Putin and Netanyahu reportedly expressed interest in pursuing diplomatic solutions on key regional issues — including Iran’s nuclear program and the situation in Syria, where tensions remain high amid ongoing instability.
The call came as Israeli and Hamas officials are holding talks in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, part of a diplomatic initiative backed by Trump to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages. Despite the efforts, several obstacles remain — notably the continued presence of Israeli forces inside Gaza and the disarmament of Hamas, both seen as major sticking points in the negotiations.
While details of the Putin–Netanyahu conversation were not disclosed, the discussion underscores renewed international engagement in efforts to bring an end to the months-long conflict and prevent further regional escalation.
