The head of the Republican Turkish Party in the occupied one-third of Cyprus, Tufan Erhürman, on Sunday won an overwhelming landslide victory, by a 2 to 1 margin in fact, over Erdogan-backed incumbent Ersin Tatar.
After all of the ballot boxes were counted in the Turkish Cypriot pseudo-state, Erhürman led with 62.76% to Tatar 35.61%, while everyone of a handful of other candidates each pooled below 1%.
Voter participation in the one-third of the island republic, which is unrecognized throughout the world except by Turkey, the occupying power, reached 64.87%.
“Our people must know this: This election has no losers. As the Turkish Cypriot people, we all won together,” he told joyous supporters in a main square in occupied Nicosia. “We said that we would proceed together, win together, and govern together. We have kept our first two promises. We will keep our third promise together as well.”
