Turkish Foreign Minister to Visit Cairo

Turkish Foreign Minister to visit Cairo with talks focusing on Gaza, Libya, regional cooperation, and boosting bilateral trade and investment

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will travel to Cairo on August 9 for high-level talks with Egypt’s leadership, amid a critical period for regional stability in both the Middle East and the Mediterranean. His visit comes as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and address pressing geopolitical issues.

According to official announcements, Fidan will meet his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, and will also be received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Discussions are expected to focus on developments in Gaza, including the ongoing mediation between Hamas and Israel led by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States. Talks will also address efforts to end the conflict and ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.

Emphasis on Libya and Regional Affairs

The agenda will extend beyond Gaza to cover developments in North and East Africa and the Sahel region, with particular attention to Libya, Sudan, and Somalia. The talks will also explore political and economic cooperation between Turkey and Egypt.

The year 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The second meeting of the Turkey–Egypt High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council is scheduled for 2026, to be chaired by both countries’ leaders. The first session was held in Ankara on September 4, 2024.

Strong Trade and Investment Links

In 2024, bilateral trade reached $8.8 billion, with a shared goal of increasing this figure to $15 billion. Turkish investments in Egypt currently stand at approximately $3.5 billion.
