UK Sees No Evidence of Iran Targeting Britain

Prime Minister Keir Starmer says security assessments show no direct Iranian threat to the UK, as tensions rise following missile activity in the region and concerns over the Strait of Hormuz

The United Kingdom has found no evidence that Iran is targeting mainland Britain, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Monday, as concerns grow over escalating tensions in the Middle East.

“We carry out assessments all the time in order to keep us safe, and there’s no assessment that we’re being targeted in that way,” Starmer told reporters.

His remarks come after reports over the weekend that Iran had fired two ballistic missiles toward the U.S.-U.K. military base at Diego Garcia, raising questions about potential wider threats.

Starmer also addressed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route, stressing that any effort to reopen it would require careful planning. He emphasized that the UK’s priority remains safeguarding national interests while pursuing de-escalation.
