White House Launches TikTok Account Under Trump

The White House has joined TikTok with a new @whitehouse account, featuring Donald Trump’s first post declaring “I am your voice.” While Trump embraces the platform’s reach, Congress remains wary of Chinese control over user data

The White House officially launched a TikTok account on Tuesday evening, marking a new step in the U.S. government’s use of social media to communicate with the public. The first post featured President Donald Trump declaring, “I am your voice,” accompanied by the caption: “America is back! What’s up, TikTok?”

Within just three hours, the @whitehouse account had attracted around 25,000 followers. Trump already commands more than 15 million followers on his personal campaign TikTok account, @realdonaldtrump, in addition to his activity on Truth Social and occasional posts on X.

The move highlights Trump’s reliance on TikTok, a platform he has credited with helping secure young voters in the 2024 presidential election.

However, lawmakers in both the House and Senate continue to express concerns over data privacy, warning that the personal information of American TikTok users could be accessed by the Chinese government. The app’s parent company, ByteDance, is based in China.

Trump has been negotiating for months to arrange a deal for American investors to purchase TikTok from ByteDance. A law passed by Congress in 2024 required the app to shut down in the U.S. by January 19, 2025, unless it changed ownership.

Despite this, Trump has repeatedly extended the deadline, admitting he has a “soft spot” for the platform. The current deadline for TikTok’s sale is September 17, 2025.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said the new account reflects the administration’s aim to share “the historic successes President Trump is delivering for the American people across as many platforms as possible.” She emphasized that TikTok was a key tool in Trump’s campaign and now offers the government a way to communicate in ways no previous administration has attempted.
