An impressive sight was observed on Monday off the Plakia coastal site in the Rethymno prefecture, with a large water sprout spotted in the waters.
The rare phenomenon, for the Libyan Sea, off the southern coast of the large island, was recorded on video and photographs first disseminated by the Creta24 site.
According to meteorologists, the increase in such weather phenomena may be possibly linked to rising temperatures, and often more pronounced changes in temperature.
In this case, the gap between the surface temperature of the seawater and the higher layers of the atmosphere cause water sprouts, according to scientists.
