Signs of Weather Shift as Heatwave Begins to Ease in Greece

Temperatures in the west are expected to hover around 34°C, while in the rest of the country they will range between 36°C and 38°C.

The first signs of a change in the weather are expected to appear today, Monday, July 28, as the intense heatwave gripping Greece begins to loosen its grip, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY).

A slight but gradual drop in temperatures is forecast, particularly in the western and northern parts of the country. Localized showers in mountainous areas, especially in the evening, will further underscore this shift in conditions.

Temperatures in the west are expected to hover around 34°C, while in the rest of the country they will range between 36°C and 38°C. In Athens, the mercury is likely to peak at 38°C, but a noticeable drop is anticipated from Tuesday, especially across inland regions.

Forecast Overview

Despite the high temperatures, the weather will remain generally clear, with temporary cloud cover developing during the afternoon in northern mountainous areas. By late evening, isolated showers are expected in the northwest.

Winds will blow from the west-northwest in western, central, and southern areas at 4 to 6 on the Beaufort scale. In other regions, winds will be more variable, reaching 3 to 4 Beaufort.

While much of the country will begin to see some relief from the heat, the eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese will continue to experience elevated temperatures.

Maximum Temperatures:

• Western Greece, the Cyclades, and Crete: 34°C to 36°C
• The rest of the country: 36°C to 38°C
• Eastern mainland areas: locally up to 39°C

The temperature drop is expected to continue in the coming days, mainly across central and northern Greece, offering a gradual return to more typical summer conditions.
