Magazine Time Out released a list of 100 greatest cinemas in the world, highlighting Cine Paris in the center of Athens as the ‘greatest outdoor cinema’. Specifically, the magazine writes: “The cinema with the greatest house lights in the world, Cine Paris screenings are backdropped by an illuminated Parthenon. Dating back to the 1920s, this open-air screen was originally founded by a Greek hairdresser who’d lived in Paris, moving to its current rooftop location in the 1960s. Now curated by Greek streaming platform Cinobo, you can expect a mix of Greek and international classics and contemporary films.”
The beloved rooftop cinema of Plaka, with a history spanning over 100 years, reopened in 2024 under Cinobo, and managed to go globally viral from the very first days of its new era. In the spring of 2026, Cine Paris will once again open its doors for the third consecutive year since its reopening, with daily screenings and a program that will include everything from classic masterpieces and films of the past to new releases and unique tributes.
About Cine Paris
Cine Paris is located on the rooftop of the listed modern monument building of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation at 22 Kidathineon Street, offering one of the most beautiful views in Athens. Cinobo undertook the reopening of the historic open-air cinema, and in May 2024 delivered Cine Paris fully renovated, upgraded, and now partially accessible to people with mobility impairments.
The goal of the Cinobo team was to remain faithful to the tradition and style of the classic open-air cinemas that are a trademark of Athens. The brand and design were handled by MB STUDIO of Miltos Boti, the architectural concept by the firm SpatialArchitecture + Design of Vasilina Kaouri and Maro Krouska, and the lighting study by Giorgos Tellos and his company Lighting Art. The cinema was equipped with a modern, high-spec projection system, surround speakers for Dolby 7.1 sound, as well as a new screen for optimal viewing conditions, with design and support by Christos Gartaganis. The plantings and landscaping were carried out by the company Lianakis Horticulture.
