CoMuseum at 15: Museums as Spaces of Hope

Through talks, discussions, workshops, and networking events, the CoMuseum functions as a global platform for knowledge exchange and capacity-building, strengthening both cultural institutions and the communities they serve.

This year, Athens welcomes the CoMuseum as it marks 15 years of charting the evolving landscape of museum practice—an opportunity to reflect on a decade and a half of creative transformation while looking ahead to a future in which museums emerge as places of hope.

Running from Wednesday, Dec. 3, to Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, the three-day gathering offers far more than a conventional conference. Through talks, discussions, workshops, and networking events, the CoMuseum functions as a global platform for knowledge exchange and capacity-building, strengthening both cultural institutions and the communities they serve.

It is a vibrant meeting ground that fosters idea generation and professional collaboration among cultural and arts practitioners from around the world.

The 2025 theme, “Museums and Hope,” casts museums as spaces of human connection, imagination, healing, and resilience. This year’s edition will explore the sector’s shifting role in shaping a more inclusive, democratic, and empathetic society.

With a dual focus on reflection and forward vision, participants will examine alternative futures and identify tools, ideas, and leadership models that empower museums to bridge differences and meet new challenges.

A portion of the event will be available via live stream.

On Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, the Benaki Museum (Pireos 138) will host a full day of talks and panel discussions featuring leading voices from the international museum and cultural community, civil society, academia, and the arts, followed by an evening networking event.

On Thursday, Dec. 4, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, the Benaki Museum will also host a series of masterclasses for museum and culture-sector professionals, both onsite and online.

On Friday, Dec. 5, the CoMuseum moves to the Thessaloniki Concert Hall for a workshop-style gathering (12:00 pm–3:00 pm) focused on local collaboration, concluding with a networking event.

Featured speakers include Sharon Ament, Dr. Wiebke Ahrndt, Dionysis Avrilionis, Stelios Voulgaris, Jean Francois Chougnet, and Natalie Giorgadze.
