The Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation Museum in Athens will host a special rooftop screening of Billy Wilder’s “Some Like It Hot” on September 4, bringing the acclaimed 1959 comedy to visitors and cinephiles. This is a part of the museum’s summer film screening series “The Artist’s Cinema”, wherein Greek artist Jannis Psychopedis has been nominated to select which films will be brought to the museum’s scenic rooftop.
The 121-minute film, directed by Wilder and written by Wilder, I.A.L. Diamond and Robert Thoeren, stars Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon.
Set in Prohibition-era Chicago, “Some Like It Hot” follows two unemployed musicians, Joe and Jerry, who witness a mob execution and are forced to leave the city. To escape, they disguise themselves as women and join an all-female jazz band traveling to Florida.
Taking on the identities of Josephine and Daphne, the two musicians attempt to conceal who they really are as their encounter with Sugar Kane complicates their plan.
The screening forms part of the museum’s summer rooftop film program, offering audiences the chance to watch Wilder’s comedy in an outdoor setting.
