Industrial production in Greece surged by 10.8% in April, according to data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). This announcement was based on the Industrial Production Index, using 2015 as the base year with a reference month of April 2024. The figures, adjusted for temporary factors and the number of working days, paint a robust picture of growth.

Comparing April 2024 to the same month in 2023, the General Industrial Production Index saw a notable 10.8% uptick. This stands in contrast to the 4.4% increase observed between 2023 and 2022.

Looking at the broader picture, the average index for the period from January to April 2024 showed a solid 5.3% rise compared to the same period in 2023. Furthermore, the seasonally adjusted General Industrial Production Index for April 2024 displayed a 7.5% increase over March 2024.

As for sector-specific performance, the production of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations experienced the most substantial percentage increase, while the manufacturing of electronic computers, electronic, and optical products saw the largest percentage decrease from March to April 2024.

In terms of year-on-year comparisons, the sectors of coal and lignite mining, crude petroleum and natural gas extraction, and support activities for mining exhibited the most significant percentage increase.

Conversely, the leather and leather goods industry sector recorded the largest percentage decrease when comparing April 2024 with April 2023.
