“The Greek economy will soar even higher in 2024”, Greek Finance Minister Kostis Hatzidakis said in a video message he shared on TikTok on the occasion of the New Year.

Hatzidakis pledged the state would focus on accelerating exports and exploiting Greek public assets via the signing of new concessions for the privatization of regional ports and airports.

The Minister also promised to clamp down on tax evasion, while he added that in the new year, an additional 481 million euros would be earmarked for public hospitals and a further 255 million would go to public education.

In his message, Hatzidakis was confident private investments would rise, stating “We estimate a 15% increase, largely due to the Greek National Recovery and Resilience Plan.”

“We are also intensifying efforts to curb tax evasion. On many different levels. With determination,” Hatzidakis said.

The Minister promised more funds would be directed to social policies in the new year. “And with a commitment for these funds to go towards strengthening our social policies,”, adding the government would not compromise our social sensitivity for anyone.”

“In 2024, an additional 481 million euros will go to hospitals and 255 million euros more to the Ministry of Education,” he concluded wishing everyone a Happy New Year.
