The Ministry of Development has taken decisive action against unfair profiteering, issuing fines totaling 1.38mln euros to 13 firms following thorough inspections.

These fines were levied due to violations involving the generation of gross profits exceeding those of 2021 for specific products.

Minister of Development Kostas Skrekas affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to combating greed, stating, “Our government and the Ministry of Development are steadfast in our fight against profiteering. We will not tolerate such behavior and will continue to enforce strict controls to punish those engaged in unfair practices.”

Furthermore, Skrekas reaffirmed that those who break the law face significant consequences, as recent measures have already led to lower prices for many essential products, stating that “Efforts to enforce the law and promote fair competition continue unabated, with a focus on correcting market distortions for the benefit of consumers.”

In adherence to disclosure laws, the names of companies fined more than 50,000 euros were made public along with their respective penalties.
