The leaders of Greece and Cyprus will meet in the framework of the third Intergovernmental Summit between the two allies starting tomorrow, Wednesday, in Athens.
Cyprus’s upcoming assumption of the Presidency of the EU Council during the first half of 2026 will be at the center of the agenda of talks between PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.
The goal is to strengthen cooperation between the two countries and expand it across a wide range of sectors beyond foreign policy, where coordination between Athens and Nicosia is already continuous.
Key topics expected to be discussed include recent regional developments and the Cyprus issue, particularly following the election of Tufan Erhürman as leader of the Turkish Cypriot community.
Among the areas of cooperation to be discussed are environment, health, education, transport, digital policy, housing policy, civil protection, justice, culture, and foreign affairs. The relevant ministers from Greece and Cyprus will focus on coordinated actions, intensified collaboration, and the exchange of best practices within their respective fields.
Energy issues are also expected to be on the table in light of recent developments. The Prime Minister will brief Mr. Christodoulides on his meetings with U.S. officials and on the agreements signed in Athens, which enhance Greece’s geopolitical and energy role in the wider region, extending as far as Ukraine.
