The Greek government is preparing potential measures to address profiteering in the fuel market following a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Maximos Mansion on Monday.
During the meeting, Mitsotakis received recommendations from the ministers responsible for development and energy regarding possible interventions aimed at protecting consumers and ensuring fair pricing in the market.
According to government sources, no final decisions were made during the session, partly due to the prime minister’s scheduled trip to Paris on Friday. Officials said the government’s final policy decisions are expected to be finalized later this week and announced shortly afterward.
Authorities emphasized that the government is focused on preventing price manipulation and supporting households during a period of rising energy costs.
Government officials also clarified that measures similar to the previously used “Fuel Pass” subsidy program are not currently being considered. Instead, the focus will be on targeted actions designed to protect consumers and limit profiteering in the fuel market.
Speaking to political reporters, the government spokesperson said the prime minister remains in constant communication with the relevant ministers as the situation develops.
“There is clearly a plan in place, and when it is finalized and considered necessary, announcements will be made within a reasonable timeframe in the coming days,” the spokesperson said.
