Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis again underlined the need for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, during his intervention at a teleconference of European Union leaders convened by European Council President Antonio Costa on Tuesday.
He expressed the same standing position during a teleconference of the leaders of parties comprising the center-right European People’s Party (EPP) grouping, two sessions that came in the wake of Monday’s meetings at the White House convened to try and find ways of ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
At the same time, Mitsotakis expressed Athens’ satisfaction over what reports cite as the Trump administration’s intent to support security guarantees extended to Ukraine in any future deal, while he reiterated Greece’s unwavering position on the inviolability of borders.
The Greek prime minister also pointed to what he called a “positive point” from Monday’s meetings, namely, that the next steps towards a meeting between the leaders of Ukraine and Russia are emerging.
During the teleconference, a detailed briefing and an assessment of the Washington meetings was provided, including by participants at the former.
