Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited an area undergoing reforestation following the devastating 2024 wildfire in the municipality of Penteli in North Athens earlier today.
Mitsotakis stressed he had the opportunity to inspect the reforestation works currently underway. “As we speak, a large part of Penteli is already being planted, and by next spring, using funds from the Recovery and Resilience Facility, we will have planted more than one million saplings to help restore the natural environment and enable the mountain itself to recover,” he stated.
The Prime Minister also visited the local indoor gymnasium, which had been completely destroyed by fire a year earlier.
“Immediately after, I visited a site that I had seen burnt down a year ago, the indoor gym in Penteli. Thanks to a generous sponsorship, we kept our promise: not only did we rebuild it, but we made it even better than it was before. We said it, and we did it,” he emphasized.
Concluding his remarks, Mitsotakis referred to the words of the mayor during her speech:
“I want to highlight one word from the mayor’s kind address, the word ‘try.’ We are trying constantly, every single day, dear friends, to make the lives of Greek citizens better. In challenging conditions, in an extremely turbulent geopolitical environment, it is our duty to keep the ship, the vessel of our homeland, steady and safe. And I assure you, we are succeeding.”
