Maria Karystianou is set to formally unveil a new political movement later this month, marking a significant step into Greece’s political arena after weeks of mounting speculation over her next move.
The announcement came late Thursday through a social media post accompanied by a symbolic AI-generated video and the slogan “A New Beginning,” a phrase that appears poised to define the movement’s broader political messaging.
The official launch event is scheduled for May 21 at the historic Olympion theater in Thessaloniki’s Aristotelous Square, a landmark cultural venue in Greece’s second-largest city. Organizers said the presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.
In the video, Karystianou, who lost her daughter at the Tempi railway disaster appears standing in Aristotelous Square outside the Olympion cinema, releasing a white dove carrying an olive branch — imagery traditionally associated with peace, renewal and reconciliation.
The clip closes with the message: “On May 21, all together with Hope for a New Beginning!”
While few details have yet emerged regarding the movement’s political platform, the repeated reference to “Hope” suggests the term may play a central role either in the organization’s identity or its broader political narrative.
