Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is scheduled to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara on February 11, marking the 6th High-Level Cooperation Council (HLC) between Greece and Turkey. The announcement was made by Greek government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis during a briefing with political reporters.
Marinakis stated that Greece will approach the dialogue with confidence and adherence to international law, emphasizing that the only outstanding issue with Turkey concerns the delimitation of the continental shelf and exclusive economic zones (EEZ) in the Aegean Sea. “We will never bring sovereignty issues or red lines to the table,” he added.
The upcoming meeting comes amid renewed tension over Greece’s right to extend its territorial waters to 12 nautical miles in the Aegean. Turkey’s Ministry of Defense recently condemned Greek statements on the matter, describing them as unilateral and contrary to international law. Ankara also reiterated its “Blue Homeland” strategy, pledging to defend what it views as Turkish rights and interests in regional waters.
The agenda and detailed program for the February 11 meeting will be announced by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Officials stress that the talks will focus on practical cooperation while maintaining Greece’s firm stance on maritime boundaries.
