Ruling New Democracy (ND) party’s lead over its closest rival is at 16.5 percentage points, according to the results of a latest opinion poll, which were presented on Thursday evening.
The survey, by the firm Opinion Poll, were unveiled on a regional television channel’s prime-time newscast.
Specifically, center-right ND edged above the 30%-mark (30.2%) in an extrapolation of the results, compared to 13.7% for socialist/social democrat PASOK and 10.7% for the right-of-center Elliniki Lysi (Greek Solution). Another five parties, including two currently not represented in Parliament, follow and are given above the 3%-threshold for entering the legislature.
This past week’s signing of a handful of energy-related agreements in Athens between the Greek government, the US and multinationals apparently acted as a fillip for the Mitsotakis government, as results of the last such poll by the same firm last month had the ruling party at 29.1%.
The percentage of respondents who said they remain undecided reached 19.6%, nearly one in five, while incumbent Kyriakos Mitsotakis remained comfortably ahead of his political rivals on the question of who is most capable for the premier’s post, at 29.1%.
