Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis spoke by phone Wednesday with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with the two officials discussing bilateral relations, preparations for the sixth round of the Greece-US Strategic Dialogue and developments in the Middle East, Iran and Ukraine.
The two ministers reaffirmed the longstanding strategic relationship between Greece and the United States and Greece’s role as a pillar of peace and stability in the region.
Their discussion comes as Athens and Washington prepare for the sixth round of the Strategic Dialogue, which is due to be held in Athens this year. The dialogue is expected to address a broad range of issues, including security and defense cooperation, energy and regional developments.
Gerapetritis and Rubio have maintained regular contact over the past year. They first held an official meeting in Washington in March 2025, when they discussed bilateral ties, Greece’s role in regional energy projects, security in the Eastern Mediterranean, Ukraine and the Middle East. They also met at the NATO summit in June 2025, when Rubio, then a US senator, expressed interest in visiting Greece.
The two ministers held further talks at the White House in February, following a Jan. 30 phone call focused on bilateral relations and preparations for the sixth Strategic Dialogue. Their February meeting also covered regional and international developments, including the Middle East, while Gerapetritis subsequently said the sixth round would take place in Athens.
