Sources: Athens Readying Demarche to IMO Over Repeated Turkish NAVTEXs

Sources in the Greek capital on Monday said Athens will underline that Ankara’s insistence on issuing such notifications to mariners for various parts of the Aegean constitutes an 'instrumentation' that aims to create fait accomplis in the region

Athens will reportedly answer the most recent NAVTEX issued by Turkey with a demarche, now being prepared by the country’s Hellenic Navy Hydrographic Service (HNHS), for submission to the IMO.

Sources in the Greek capital on Monday said Athens will underline that Ankara’s insistence on issuing such notifications to mariners for various parts of the Aegean constitutes an “instrumentation” that aims to create fait accomplis in the region.

Meanwhile, speaking during a briefing of reporters on Monday, foreign ministry spokeswoman Lana Zohiou announced the 10-member ministerial delegation that will travel with the prime minister to Ankara tomorrow for a high-ranking Greece-Turkey meeting, headed by visiting Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the host.

Zohiou added that the deputy minister responsible for political dialogue with Turkey, Alexandra Papadopoulou, will not travel to Ankara, as she was diagnosed with influenza type A.
