Candidate list reshuffle enters final stage
The design of the EL.A.S. ballots is in full progress, with discussions covering both new entrants and figures from the wider SYRIZA space. According to information published by To Vima, a broad group of independent MPs and former SYRIZA deputies are expected to be included in the new formation’s candidate lists.
Names under consideration include: Alexandros Meïkopoulos, Haris Mamoulakis, Marina Kontotoli, Kostas Barkas, Kalliopi Vetta, Miltos Zabaras, Popi Tsapanidou, Giorgos Gavrilos, Dionysis Kalamatianos, Giorgos Psychogios, Giorgos Panagiotopoulos, Katerina Notopoulou, Giorgos Karamero, Vasilis Kokkalis, Symeon Kedikoglou, Giannis Sarakiotis and Ferhat Ozgkiour, says To Vima.
These moves are viewed as part of a broader realignment in the center‑left space, with EL.A.S. attempting to establish a distinct identity ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The Unveiling of EL.A.S’s Economic Programme
Tsipras plans to present the full economic program of EL.A.S. ahead of the official opening of TIF and before Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ address. Analysts say the timing is deliberate, aiming to place economic and social policy at the top of the agenda and compel the government to respond to his proposals.
Main Policy Areas
The core pillars of the party’s program are social policy, tax fairness and fiscal stability. Measures under preparation include:
- reducing living and energy costs for households and businesses
- a revised tax framework
- housing and “red loans”, including a proposed public body for social management of mortgages
- education reforms such as changes to nationwide exams, non‑state universities and technical education
- labor, investment and industrial policy initiatives
Some proposals remain undisclosed, with Tsipras’s team keeping certain elements for the Thessaloniki presentation to maintain political impact. The final question is whether the package will be specific enough to move beyond general opposition messaging and present a full alternative economic plan for the next electoral contest.
